When you use Shopdex, we may collect information you provide directly to us, such as your name, email address, and payment information when you create an account or subscribe to our services. We also collect usage data including the store URLs you analyze and your interaction with our platform features.
The Shopdex Chrome Extension provides e-commerce intelligence by analyzing Shopify-powered stores and displaying analytics overlays on TikTok.
Shopify Store Analysis: Because Shopify stores operate on thousands of unique custom domains, the extension checks each site you visit to determine if it is a Shopify-powered store. If the site is not a Shopify store, the extension does nothing and no data is collected or transmitted. On confirmed Shopify stores, the extension reads publicly available store information such as the store name, theme, installed apps, and product listings — the same data visible to any visitor. This data may be sent to our servers to generate a store analysis report.
TikTok Analytics: On TikTok (tiktok.com), the extension reads publicly available engagement data (views, likes, comments, saves, shares) from content already loaded in your browser. This data is used to display analytics overlays and is cached locally on your device for performance. The extension also provides a video download feature and an AI-powered comment summarization feature, both of which involve sending data to third-party services and our own servers respectively.
Screenshot Capture: The extension can capture a screenshot of your current tab when you explicitly use the Screenshot to Search feature. Screenshots are sent to our servers for product image matching and are not stored permanently.
Authentication: The extension reads session cookies from shopdex.io to verify your account and subscription status. These cookies are only read from the shopdex.io domain and are used solely for authentication purposes.
The extension does not record or transmit your general browsing history. It does not read your passwords, form inputs, or personal messages on any website. It does not access your TikTok or Shopify account credentials. It does not collect data from non-Shopify websites. It does not sell your personal information to any third party.
The Chrome Extension requires the following browser permissions:
Host permissions (shopdex.io): Used to read authentication cookies from your Shopdex account to verify your subscription status.
Content scripts (all URLs): The extension runs a lightweight detection script on pages you visit to check whether a site is powered by Shopify. Shopify stores operate on thousands of unique custom domains that cannot be pre-listed. If the site is not a Shopify store, the script does nothing and no data is collected. A separate content script runs only on tiktok.com to display analytics overlays.
Scripting: Used to inject the store analysis overlay when you click the extension icon, and to inject the TikTok analytics script.
Tabs: Used to read the current tab URL when you click the extension icon and to capture screenshots when you use the Screenshot to Search feature.
Storage: Used to cache TikTok video analytics data locally in your browser for performance.
Cookies: Used to read your Shopdex session cookie from shopdex.io for authentication. No cookies from other websites are accessed.
Downloads: Used to save TikTok videos to your device when you use the download feature.
ActiveTab: Used to interact with the current tab when you click the extension icon to open the store analysis overlay.
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our services, generate store analysis reports, process transactions, enforce subscription plan limits, send you technical notices and support messages, and respond to your requests. Publicly available store and product data collected through the extension may be used to build and improve our e-commerce intelligence database. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information. Your data is stored securely using encrypted databases with row-level security enabled. All connections between the extension, your browser, and our servers use HTTPS encryption. Authentication is handled through Clerk. We regularly review our security practices to ensure your information remains protected.
Shopdex uses cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and understand how you use our platform. The Chrome Extension reads session cookies from shopdex.io only for authentication purposes. You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences.
We use the following third-party services to operate Shopdex:
Stripe — payment processing
Clerk — authentication
Supabase — database hosting
Vercel — application hosting
The TikTok video download feature uses a third-party service to retrieve video files. These services only receive the data necessary to perform their functions and are governed by their own privacy policies.
You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information at any time. You may also request a copy of the data we hold about you. If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA respectively. To exercise these rights, please contact us directly.
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Store and product data may be cached to improve the platform and is periodically refreshed. Locally cached TikTok analytics data is stored in your browser and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings or by removing the extension. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
